Chimney Power Consumption

How to Calculate Chimney Power Consumption in Easy steps 2024?

You can consider your chimney as one of the appliances in your kitchen like the Refrigerator. It removes all the smoke and odor from your kitchen and provides proper ventilation.

And like your refrigerator, it will cost you your electricity bills.

It is important to know the power consumption of the chimney you are going to install in your kitchen. As it is going to cost you money in the long run.

The Chimney power consumption depends on the chimney type, its hood size, and features.

The curved glass and the pyramid chimneys are the most power-efficient chimneys of all.

However, you can check the wattage of the chimney in the product description. It will give you an idea of the Chimney power consumption.

However, chimney consumption mostly lies between 100 – 250 watts.

In this article, we will discuss the chimney power consumption and how much money it will cost you in your electricity bills.

Check the wattage of the chimney before buying.

Before buying a chimney, check its power consumption in watts. You can find it in the product box or in the product description.

This will help you understand how much it will cost to run on your electricity. The more powerful the chimney, the more electricity it will use.

How much power does a kitchen chimney use?

How much power a kitchen chimney uses will depend on how powerful your chimney is.

Standard kitchen chimneys usually use anywhere from 100 watts for a basic model and up to 250 watts for a more powerful chimney (High suction Power).

Some commercial chimneys have higher suction power which are used for longer hours and can use 300-600 watts or more.

Please note that: Auto-clean features also use electricity.

Chimney Power consumption includes

  • Fan Motor – 100 – 250 watts
  • Lights – 5 – 20 watts
  • Controls / Auto-clean feature – 10 – 30 watts

How can I calculate my actual bill?

Once you have found your daily use watts, if you want to calculate what the actual amount it costs, just do this simple math.

Power consumption of chimney per hour X How many hours you use a chimney

= Daily amount of power consumption of chimney

Total daily power consumption by chimney X Total days in the month

= Total amount of power used in a month

Total power consumption in the month ÷ 1000

= Total power consumption per month in kilowatts

Total power consumption per month in kilowatts X Price per kilowatt

= Total cost of electricity per month.

For example

You have a chimney that has a power consumption of 150 watts per hour and you use it for 5 hours daily. We will multiply 150 Wph by 5 hours, so it will be 150 X 5 = 750.

The total power consumption of your daily use of the chimney is 750 watts.

Approx 750 watts is your daily consumption and you are going to use the chimney daily for around 30 days. You just have to multiply 750 by 30, so it will be 750 X 30 = 22,500.

22,500 is your monthly wattage consumption of your chimney.

Now you have to convert this watt to kilowatts, for this, you just have to divide the total monthly consumption by 1000, so it will be 22,500 / 1000 = 22.5 kilowatts.

To calculate the actual amount, see what price your electricity provider charges per kilowatt. Here in my area, the price of electricity per kW is around 8 rupees.

So we will multiply the total consumed kilowatts into price per kilowatts and it will be 22.5 X 8 = 180.

Now here we get the actual bill amount, which is Rs.180.

By doing this type of calculation, you can easily identify the actual amount this chimney will cost.

Should I keep it turned on all the time, or should I only turn it on when I cook?

It is recommended that you use your kitchen chimney only when cooking and not keep it turned on all the time.

Why should you turn on your chimney during cooking only?

  • Unnecessary power waste.
  • Nonstop running may cause equipment damage.
  • It will also vent out the dust, as this will block the airflow.
  • Continuous working of a motor may create the notice issue.

Conclusion.

The chimney power consumption lies around 100-250 watts based on size and features. You can calculate the electricity bills using the methods mentioned above.

You don’t have to worry much about the Chimney power consumption. Just look at the wattage of the chimney in the product description and purchase it from a reputable brand.
